Junebug Weddings Photo shoot

Although our winter season was very busy, sometimes we just need to have some creative fun with friends! Photographer Joan Allen and I had been speaking for several months about creating a moody, dreamy wedding shoot that also incorporated bridal fashion, poetry and art.  We designed and produced this wonderful wedding photo shoot with an amazingly talented group of people and we are so pleased that it came out today in Junebug Weddings! This was such a creative collaborative opportunity for us all. Thanks to Eye of the Day Garden Design Center for letting us set up such a beautiful wedding scene in their magical greenhouse location. That store is filled to the rafters with the most amazing statuary and chic garden decor that I have ever seen! It was a fabulous place to spend the day on a shoot and I left with a van full of many fabulous new pots for my garden by the time we were done!

Below is the list of vendors that worked on the shoot:

Happy and Abundant New Year!

Wishing everyone a very happy, healthy, beautiful and abundant 2012!

Yves Piaget roses from my garden in a Tiffany sterling creamer

There is so much to be thankful for, like life’s sweet little moments……

Afternoon tea

A tea party for two in my rose garden.

May your time be filled with moments of wonder, awe, and reflection.

surfers

A quiet moment of reflection at Rincon.

Let’s all remember to go slow and steady (which we know, always wins the race)!

tortoise

My very adorable 100 pound African Spurred tortoise, Jerry.

This year I am making a resolution to remember to set up more special moments to enjoy time with family and friends.

lemonade on the veranda

Ready for a quiet afternoon with a friend.

I am also pledging to eat more carefully and thoughtfully (perhaps I will serve that lemonade with fresh fruit instead of that fruit tart!!!!)

crudites

Crudites in a sterling bowl - the best way to serve them!

My favorite thing, which I will continue to do, is to work very hard and push beyond what is easy and comfortable in order to reach my goals.

Reaching for the ball

My little guy, going for it!

Most importantly, at the beginning of this new year, I want to express my gratitude for the abundance that I have been blessed with in my life and in my work.

still life with food

The earth's abundance!

Finally, I will leave you with a Deepak Chopra quote on abundance~

The universe operates through dynamic exchange – giving and receiving are different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe and in our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the universe circulating in our lives.

Wishing each of you abundant health, abundant love, abundant success, abundant family time, and abundant joy!  Happy New Year!

Hot Pink Party at Bacara Resort

Here are some images of a beautiful event that we produced at The Bacara Resort and Spa. This hot pink ballroom was a particular favorite of ours!

The Bacara Resort and Spa is a great venue for Santa Barbara corporate events, Santa Barbara weddings and social events in Santa Barbara. We love working there and have created some very memorable events at that location for our clients.

Boho Chic Wedding Style

I was looking back over some past Santa Barbara weddings,  that we have done and came across these boho chic wedding style shots, which are no longer featured on my website. I just love the simplicity and purity that the talented Melissa Musgrove captured in each of them. Laura Sangas from Cody Floral Design also did such a lovely job in creating floral elements that worked perfectly with the theme. All antiques and vintage pieces are from the Merryl Brown Events collection. We love our work as Santa Barbara wedding planners.

Community Environmental Council’s Green Gala 2011

Here are some of our favorite images from the CEC Green Gala 2011. Not only was the party fabulous and beautiful, but it was one of our most sustainable events with a diversion rate in the high 90′s for the 3rd year in a row! This is green event planning at its best!

The Community Environmental Council is a truly exceptional organization. They do great work in our beautiful community of Santa Barbara, so please visit them at www.cecsb.org and learn more about their mission! Gypsy Caravan

This beautiful gypsy caravan can be yours! It is the featured auction item at CEC’s Green Gala.

Ideal as an artist studio, guest cottage, romantic getaway or over-the-top conversation piece, the Gypsy Caravan has been built in the Ledge style of gypsy caravans — a narrow base with upright sides, extended living space, and arched roof.

Our Gypsy Caravan features sleeping quarters for two in a custom-built and dressed double bed, built-in desk and closet, indoor and outdoor sconces and a painted chandelier with antique Austrian crystals, powered by an off-grid solar panel. Built from the ground up using mostly reclaimed wood and found material, the entire piece features charming and eclectic recycled, bartered and repurposed items—in true gypsy fashion.

Jim Forsha of Imagine Design Studios and Jamie Nelson of Jamie Nelson Construction in Santa Barbara are the architects, visionaries and builders of this masterpiece. Galvin Painting designed the base painting. The copper roof was donated by Craig Roof Company.

The caravan’s entire decorative painting, antiquing, processing of the colors,  and custom Artwork, both inside and outside was done by  the renowned artist  Maryvonne LaParliere. The solar panel was donated by Sun Pacific Solar Electric.  Together, these artisans have created a unique and amazing masterpiece valued at $80,000!

Destination Weddings in Santa Barbara and Wedding Activities in Santa Barbara, CA

I am often asked by brides planning destination weddings in Santa Barbara what they should suggest that their guests do while visiting Santa Barbara or for their Montecito destination weddings. We are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful place with so many activity options!  Here is a list of some of our favorite activities in Santa Barbara that we like to suggest. We have many more unique and fun ideas too; just ask us!

  • Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA) – Take a guided tour and see contemporary and modern works, antiquities, and European and Asian collections. The cafe is also lovely and there are many charming places to eat and shop nearby as well.

  • Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History – Learn and experience history in a new way!  See a 72-foot Blue Whale skeleton up close or visit the vast bird, insect, mammals, marine life, paleontology, and Chumash Indians exhibits. This is a wonderful and charming little museum with nature trials behind it as well. This is a particularly fun place to visit with children.

  • Santa Barbara Botanic Garden – Enjoy the breathtaking botanic garden, which is dedicated to research, conservation, and showcasing California’s native plants and flowers. It is a wonderful place to spend the afternoon.

  • Ganna Walska Lotusland – Explore the intricacy and beauty of Lotusland’s multiple gardens. You must make reservations to visit though, and book early as they do sometimes fill up and then cannot accept more visitors. This is among my favorite gardens in the world (and as a nine year Trustee and now Lifetime Honorary Trustee, I can tell you, this place is the BEST!!)

  • Casa Del Herrero – Tour this quaint garden and amazing historic home in Montecito’s upper villagewhile learning about a slice of Montecito history. Once you are done, go down the street to Tecolote Bookshop and peruse their many books on local architecture and history. The have them all!

  • Cruise and Whale Watching with Double Dolphin or Condor Express – Take a leisurely cruise about Santa Barbara and the Channel Islands while whale watching and learning about underwater wildlife.

  • Shop and Dine on State Street. Some of our favorite downtown restaurants are Downey’s, Cadiz, and Emilio’s (on Cabrillo)

  • Go on a Hike – Take in Santa Barbara’s breathtaking scenery from on its many outdoor trails through the Santa Ynez mountains or take a long beach walk at low tide.

  • Old Mission Santa Barbara – Visit the historical grounds and take a tour of the Mission Gardens, Church, and Museum. Then stroll across the street to the beautiful and much loved rose garden.

Santa Barbara wedding planning is a lot easier when you work with a local who can show you where to find just what you are looking for!

Community Environmental Council of Santa Barbara

The Community Environmental Council (CEC) is one of our absolute favorite non-profit organizations in Santa Barbara!  For the past two years, we have had the privilege of producing their annual Green Gala, a fabulous, award-winning eco-chic party.  We are currently in the process of coordinating this year’s Gypsy Caravan-inspired Gala, to be held on October 21st, 2011.

The CEC’s mission is to identify, promote, and raise awareness about the most pressing environmental issues affecting the Santa Barbara region and the rest of the world.  The CEC advocates for the utilization of clean and efficient solar, wind, and wave power, as well as other green products and measures that reduce our carbon footprint.

In addition to the Green Gala, the CEC hosts and participates in  produces several other green events, including the Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival, Solar SUNday, and Carrot Mobs.  This year they are the title charity for the Santa Barbara Int’l Marathon.  These events raise awareness, educate, promote energy efficiency and recognize green businesses in the community. Another CEC gem is Culinary Masterpieces, an event which we delightedly coordinate with them, highlighting local foods and artisanal, sustainably made local products.
We love the CEC and you will too! Check them out at www.cecsb.org and take a moment to visit their blog at www.cecsb.org/frontpage/blog
It is filled with wonderful tips and great information about living a more sustainable life, Santa Barbara style!

Montecito Estate Wedding

A picture is worth a thousand words! This one picture will have to suffice until the C Magazine article comes out in January 2012 and fills in the fabulous details of this splendid fairytale wedding  on a lovely Montecito estate. It was a magnificent wedding packed with celebrity guests, Kenny Loggins as a surprise performer, catering by the Four Seasons Biltmore Santa Barbara, a magnificent cake by Robyn Loves Cake, antique china, antique stemware and antique flatware from Small Masterpiece, wedding gown by Monique Lhullier. It was a beautiful Montecito wedding – certainly one of the most memorable weddings that we have ever produced.
